2. Tip of the Month: Planning
Let's start with a couple of motivational quotes to bring home the point of effective planning:
"It takes as much energy to wish as it does to plan." -- Eleanor Roosevelt
"Plans are nothing; planning is everything." -- Dwight D. Eisenhower
With any big project, effective planning can make a difference by saving you time, valuable resources and gray hairs. Here are a few suggested tips to follow whether you're performing the construction work yourself or using a professional general contractor.
- Define and document what you want (wish list and must have list) and most importantly what are your specific lifestyle needs. Get your family involved in this stage of the process.
- Work with your dealer and/or builder to define the budget early in the process. Get pre-qualified from a lender and know the numbers you have to work with for your budget.
- Establish a set of goals for your new log home, i.e., total budget, timetables, etc.
- Effectively communicate what you want with your log home dealer and builder to achieve the desired results.
- Be ready to comprise and be flexible to keep the project within your budget.
The Leelanau Log Home Company and Lincoln Logs will assist you in all of your planning needs. We like to say from "Conception to Completion." We offer:
- Professional design and engineering staff at Lincoln Logs.
- Free custom quotes for your log home package.
- Assist you to develop your overall plan with budget and timetable.
- Complete construction services from shell-in to full turnkey options.
- Outstanding customer service through the entire process. Your satisfaction is our top priority.

Here's a website dedicated to "everything log." Loghome.net is a great resource for the log home shopper or the log home owner. You'll find information about log producers, local dealers, maintenance, log home shows, services, floorplans, free information, articles, etc.
The site is well organized with easy to understand section titles. There's a site search box near the bottom of the home page so finding specific information is easy. This is an excellent website resource worthy of a bookmark. Enjoy!
