1. Tip of the Month: Foundations
The Original Lincoln Logs LTD homes are designed to work with almost any type of foundation.slab, crawl space, full basement or walkout basement. Regardless of the type of foundation you choose, Lincoln Logs homes require an 8" concrete wall thickness. Here are some advantages and disadvantages of each type of foundation:
Slab Foundation: Probably the least expensive way to go, however this type of foundation is very restrictive when installing your heating, plumbing and electric systems. This form of foundation is structural concrete slab that is poured directly on the grade. Slab foundations are popular in areas where there is a high water table or lakefront building sites.
Crawl Space Foundation: Typically this foundation wall is 4 foot wall height or higher for easier access to install the heating, plumbing and electrical systems. Crawl space foundations are used in predominant areas where there is heavy clay content in the soil or lakefront building sites.
Full Basement (Walkout) Foundation: Depending on your property a full basement with a walkout is by far the most cost effective use of space. Basement walls are typically 8 feet high; however, many homeowners will opt for a 9 or 10 feet basement wall height to increase headroom space.
Foundation technology has taken a leap forward in recent years with several Insulated Concrete Forms products and systems. These are foam panels with concrete poured inside them. They offer many advantages over standard concrete walls. Cost can vary depending on the manufacturer, so do your research before committing to these systems.
